<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I did not add any borders to my quilt. The time it took to cut and piece this top was 3.5 - 4 hours. It is 51 inches square.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I picked this 10 yard bolt of Spiderman fabric. I had to buy some red and blue fabrics to go with it.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I do have a lot of red and blue fabric but it was bought with the $ we were given for the vet quilts.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I used this simple pattern for the first Spiderman quilt - my squares were 6.5 inches unfinished</span><br />

The main purpose of this trip was to give Elizabeth the nursing quilt I had made. Plus Elizabeth invited me go dorm room shopping with her! How fun for me to be included.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We met and I presented her with the quilt as I wanted her to see it before she bought sheets so she could buy some that would go with the quilt.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">She opened the quilt and said</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">"g'ma I have decided not to be a nurse. I thought I told you."</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">In that split second disappointment must have really showed on my face because she then quickly said</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">"don't cry g'ma. I was teasing you. Please don't cry. I am going to be a nurse."</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I am happy to say that she LOVES the quilt.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLP3DxE3GwFDv8rmO0wXIdj928OzAFp0-JUZA3MxYLavBN7x-brMqBKVZRhvEOXS5h7rFg-eBwnT8ZBMIp195xx5vFie-zYvfvYJcDLdYrVCeASd-tkj7t8eTBHx9WGqit6cdbLm2yNEu1/s1600/IMG_1115.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLP3DxE3GwFDv8rmO0wXIdj928OzAFp0-JUZA3MxYLavBN7x-brMqBKVZRhvEOXS5h7rFg-eBwnT8ZBMIp195xx5vFie-zYvfvYJcDLdYrVCeASd-tkj7t8eTBHx9WGqit6cdbLm2yNEu1/s640/IMG_1115.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Have to admit a thousand thoughts flew through my mind in that millisecond. What am I going to do with this quilt, do I have time to make another one, what is she going to study... I thought I was prepared if she didn't like the quilt and I guess I wasn't.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Gotta love a happy ending!</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"> A lot of the bolts have 10-12 yards, perfect for backings.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"> I need to organize it so like fabrics are together</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOalpY_uMzVNQYVKZ4xFOlkSh6Gj9wZ_haB__i0kbFNrC4-JrAo4dZy0AtpKfV12WPqJYzuMWcy_-heym3iiVBT65H9-mgv3JtLwW1wGbNvzq4S6DcMMc5gwpsEh32FYdQek7pIEs_0m6R/s1600/IMG_1104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOalpY_uMzVNQYVKZ4xFOlkSh6Gj9wZ_haB__i0kbFNrC4-JrAo4dZy0AtpKfV12WPqJYzuMWcy_-heym3iiVBT65H9-mgv3JtLwW1wGbNvzq4S6DcMMc5gwpsEh32FYdQek7pIEs_0m6R/s640/IMG_1104.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> There are some great fabrics to use in I Spy quilts</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTTh9H56Ool5UJqRqpZT78qLXCho-HSHH76lhSF5KdzCAyWQYo165ymV9DO2kJYRxas1FRc0fjGdLwI-GJHmdLDpeqmPQ8OOQwm_cSHGHOpb6SEAHwIgbkEKexQRoNSv4yN1NbZLVQBNYe/s1600/IMG_1105.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTTh9H56Ool5UJqRqpZT78qLXCho-HSHH76lhSF5KdzCAyWQYo165ymV9DO2kJYRxas1FRc0fjGdLwI-GJHmdLDpeqmPQ8OOQwm_cSHGHOpb6SEAHwIgbkEKexQRoNSv4yN1NbZLVQBNYe/s640/IMG_1105.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I just need to come up with the patterns that will work with these fabrics. There is no hurry to make these quilts.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1_RsrawiCnOO8cdolfZZxwGc5ALcat6cexxyN9YLCMwtNUyQKZcdMRtBVPTbvgtrERME9oeY_aWdUKQVtiPbipS1iBOSIN5r3I4Uw7PhhDcMiJcUy-kvIgPI3Bbn-W9D7K2e196uUrORe/s1600/IMG_1106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1_RsrawiCnOO8cdolfZZxwGc5ALcat6cexxyN9YLCMwtNUyQKZcdMRtBVPTbvgtrERME9oeY_aWdUKQVtiPbipS1iBOSIN5r3I4Uw7PhhDcMiJcUy-kvIgPI3Bbn-W9D7K2e196uUrORe/s640/IMG_1106.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I do have a few patterns that use three 1 yard pieces of fabric and that will work with a some of these fabrics. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have decided that I won't be able to afford batting to use in all the quilts this fabric can make. I will make the tops, backings and bindings and then pass them along to Quilts of Compassion (Toledo, OH) and Project Linus to finish. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I am looking forward to getting started on these tops, hoping I can make 2-3 a month.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj02YlPQJEvYiNJig2rkkA6lJ3fjQPBKJWcGYNjrOZZNdQhKyVmy5KABTQTWUFA41pcP_0C_Nn6sfG2YQt5lXC0efSUuAQXCqQFGAvS8RwL0-7JrWEULjoRvw8h2XureNtSDjn5bmqPRJ3O/s1600/IMG_1090.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj02YlPQJEvYiNJig2rkkA6lJ3fjQPBKJWcGYNjrOZZNdQhKyVmy5KABTQTWUFA41pcP_0C_Nn6sfG2YQt5lXC0efSUuAQXCqQFGAvS8RwL0-7JrWEULjoRvw8h2XureNtSDjn5bmqPRJ3O/s640/IMG_1090.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> These three tops went to Quilts of Compassion in Toledo, OH. Janice came to Nashville and these went home with her. The above top didn't turn out like I expected. A friend gave me a picture and I just didn't calculate the measurements correctly. It is the perfect size if the dark strip goes left to right.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I put the kits together for the vet quilters to piece. The strips for the center of the stars were made by the group. One of the ladies then added the star points and sashing to make the completed top. It was quilted by a friend who recently bought a long arm. Also can't forget about Barbara who comes to our sew days and just likes to iron!! I am grateful for everyone's help.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I mostly had fat quarters to work with and made some hearts and crosses to fill in the spaces. I used</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">the "falling Charms" pattern from MSQC. I increased the size of the blocks to 8.5 inches unfinished as I wanted to showcase the fabrics</span><br />

We have given ourselves two months to finish the quilt. Our first pattern is -</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb0qs5YG8wuwSvTBKdA6TnBwgUvewcJ5YzZTgwXGv6T1sLY8MVImXRQfn-HZXqoPSJK5sJMXWk-qxxH4fYkEK0SNOTuF4xRsUxfnCVM5tvvBUZF4yUTF_VlbMkkza2pZHQ-98vTvABeQom/s1600/IMG_1039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb0qs5YG8wuwSvTBKdA6TnBwgUvewcJ5YzZTgwXGv6T1sLY8MVImXRQfn-HZXqoPSJK5sJMXWk-qxxH4fYkEK0SNOTuF4xRsUxfnCVM5tvvBUZF4yUTF_VlbMkkza2pZHQ-98vTvABeQom/s640/IMG_1039.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It is very modern. The blocks are huge. 11x18. After cutting it took about 4 hours to make the top.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">Can't even tell that the oval fabric is a print in the picture of the completed top. I like it okay, modern quilts aren't my favorite. <span style="font-size: large;">I have been meeting with friends on Wednesday mornings and we are all making a Lori Holt quilt. I've changed up some of my blocks as some are 6 inch and some 12 inch. <span style="font-size: large;">I have spent Thursdays since February giving beginning quilting classes to the ladies who work on the Vet quilts. The classes didn't go the way I planned but went okay, they weren't able to grasp everything I tried to teach them. Some did better than others and others quit along the way. I think for the most part we are going to stick to string quilts...I am just not cut out to be a quilt teacher.</span><br />

Time just slipped by...<br />
<br />
I certainly didn't accomplish as much as I would have liked in 2017 with regards to quilting. Being in charge of creating 50 Vet quilts sorta took over my life. Even though I had a lot of help it was all very time consuming.<br />
<br />
This year, 2018, we are only going to be making 12-15 quilts for Vets. That is so very manageable. We already have 12 finished and ready to present to our local Vets. This year we are concentrating on Viet Nam Vets. I think it will take 3 years of quilt making to cover these vets.<br />
<br />
Karen and I are going to try to use up a lot of our scraps this year. We even traded scraps. I've come up with 5 patterns I want to make into a scrappy quilts. When cutting up my scraps I plan on cutting for all 5 quilts at the same time.<br />
<br />
Our second granddaughter is graduating this year and is planning on going to nursing school. I bought a bunch of nursing fabric that needs to be turned into a quilt before graduation in May, though I may wait until she finds out which dorm room she gets as I want to make the quilt to fit her bed. It will either be a full size or a extra long twin.<br />
<br />
I have one baby quilt to make for our niece's 2nd baby and a log cabin quilt to make for our closest neighbor.<br />
<br />
Back in November some quilty friends got together to make some barn quilts. They invited me to join in. I am not a crafter, don't enjoy it at all. I did go to watch. They were making 2x2 ft boards. First they painted their boards white, waited for the paint to dry. Then they drew their designs on the boards. Then they taped off the areas to be painted first. Painted the first area. Waited for that to dry. This is when I left. I guess quilting gives me instant gratification, even though it takes quite awhile to make a quilt.<br />
<br />
I came home and decided that I really wanted a barn quilt, one that was 4x4 ft.<br />
<br />
The perfect solution for a non-crafter is to go to etsy and see what they had in the size I wanted.<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
It came in the middle of November and I actually waited until Christmas morning to unwrap it! I just love it so much. Makes me smile every time I come home. We put it on the side of a shed. My thoughts are that I just might buy a barn quilt every year until this side of the shed is covered...<br />
Even though the description said it had been waterproofed I sprayed it again.<br />
<br />
Bill couldn't figure out what it was that he bought me for Christmas!<br />
<br />
I made a total of 39 quilts in 2017 and used about 179 yards of fabric. Hoping to do a bit better in 2018.<br />

"Today" the forecast is for rain on Saturday. Hopefully that changes.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This one was made by the newest member of our quilt group - she is a quilter!!!! She did a great job.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg82SOGvehZZM_xEuBxf9MjgHEwpt2mrRKKx7GKLTeEUApqs0y0o4FwcecFquGWRgXAzr3InwU8WsMEpJTotZ_0bZluoVKefETTiWDBHccttesnB_MKG8Hw0vvzp-o0JTG4EuSBbhcU-gNu/s1600/IMG_0895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg82SOGvehZZM_xEuBxf9MjgHEwpt2mrRKKx7GKLTeEUApqs0y0o4FwcecFquGWRgXAzr3InwU8WsMEpJTotZ_0bZluoVKefETTiWDBHccttesnB_MKG8Hw0vvzp-o0JTG4EuSBbhcU-gNu/s640/IMG_0895.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Four different people made this quilt happen. Karen made the 16 patches, a friend made them into a quilt top, Anne quilted it and I did the binding. Totally a group effort.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The pattern from this quilt is from <a href="http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2017/08/mystery-a6-clue-5-and-final-clue.html">Alycia's</a> latest QOV Mystery. The directions made this one super easy to make. We are donating this quilt to the group who is building a Veteran's Park in our county. I hope it brings in a bunch of donations.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I think the name of this pattern is "Home of the Brave". Another quilt that went together with no problems. You piece it in vertical rows.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Qbckg30LgLFTfba95N7QVRlC6NY-ESGVjw8aa-PiJNNs_q8ZLSWfEEHEIU8XasnqMDQ6qY3f0_dy1qjKN7HnU81usvzfFgVHdEbMTxRg-ssWxKc1vBgihJZTA0H4Ko-d3jHwPqFqW7Mz/s1600/IMG_0898.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Qbckg30LgLFTfba95N7QVRlC6NY-ESGVjw8aa-PiJNNs_q8ZLSWfEEHEIU8XasnqMDQ6qY3f0_dy1qjKN7HnU81usvzfFgVHdEbMTxRg-ssWxKc1vBgihJZTA0H4Ko-d3jHwPqFqW7Mz/s640/IMG_0898.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Yes, this is it for the Vet quilts for this year. Now we are praying that it doesn't rain on Saturday until 2:30 when the quilt show ends.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Here is a copy of the flyer that Anne, quilt shop owner, sent out on Facebook, members of the guilds she belongs to and all guilds within 100 miles of Wayne County.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Here are three more Vet quilts washed dried and ready to hang at the show on Saturday. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This square circle quilt isn't my favorite and I couldn't figure out why until Karen reminded me that I am not that fond of so much background being</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> in my quilts.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I absolutely love this one! Super simple and it looks great. Very patriotic looking.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbqYqLFOG9FVYin_JMOA2ZZKNyp5y6cwWQldvM5H2z1C6P2ODAtCpREMlt71mybWYJXeD-u7aKyYdH974Rvy9gXWRM___5uEld2YXR7qjOowfsNknkrXWGLT9xpeBeX9smLVmmq-n39PR/s1600/IMG_0891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHbqYqLFOG9FVYin_JMOA2ZZKNyp5y6cwWQldvM5H2z1C6P2ODAtCpREMlt71mybWYJXeD-u7aKyYdH974Rvy9gXWRM___5uEld2YXR7qjOowfsNknkrXWGLT9xpeBeX9smLVmmq-n39PR/s640/IMG_0891.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This 18 patch was a great way to use up the last little pieces of fabric. The rectangles are 2.5 x 4.5. Another easy quilt especially if you sew two strips together and then subcut.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I only have four left that need binding and then I am finished!!!!</span></div>

With just over a week until the quilt show we still have 7 that need binding and then we are done... we certainly are cutting it really close. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2k0RwSFfBQNlOo9RY90utHBOmPb69Rady0Ttcip_kaTQG_iaN7NOFyFeehR6x5PC9xIgNEfERvP7X5Ofq0dnlI0KlWycKYBkYRWmOP-fd-9iLJ2w28FBGlfBZvVih8JeRjzbohk3doFNe/s1600/IMG_0884.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2k0RwSFfBQNlOo9RY90utHBOmPb69Rady0Ttcip_kaTQG_iaN7NOFyFeehR6x5PC9xIgNEfERvP7X5Ofq0dnlI0KlWycKYBkYRWmOP-fd-9iLJ2w28FBGlfBZvVih8JeRjzbohk3doFNe/s640/IMG_0884.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This blocks in this quilt were made by the group. I think they did a really great job. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">When the quilts are finished and I show the group the quilts they helped make they are all in awe that they could make something so beautiful. It is really very touching to see their responses.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmUFLqkIrXUInriKldA2MCHgT6AL33MHYySmlWWwcrtrCPkhng4D9OUM1NffsuOMMK28p0dYO2yVHn7iiTUVTRKhq8qo9XaDqL3CQTfD5YN5YvpgLLXyw-OvgStdldBWN0T3Ra-h6SCIyh/s1600/IMG_0886.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmUFLqkIrXUInriKldA2MCHgT6AL33MHYySmlWWwcrtrCPkhng4D9OUM1NffsuOMMK28p0dYO2yVHn7iiTUVTRKhq8qo9XaDqL3CQTfD5YN5YvpgLLXyw-OvgStdldBWN0T3Ra-h6SCIyh/s640/IMG_0886.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">This is the second tumbler quilt made this year and we still have enough tumblers cut for at least one more.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK2v56TEN3JPvx3xrhOHVBRpjj2wrnEDLK3iHngk8QfFiDJTpAM5TgKsklujiT7cd-9ze4XIJdeNSNAQ2zFwly_4D0gUbsQIFpXznAA61KkHqPYLxxTEoRsxrXP_zuRusMuFgDftQrgogz/s1600/IMG_0887.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiK2v56TEN3JPvx3xrhOHVBRpjj2wrnEDLK3iHngk8QfFiDJTpAM5TgKsklujiT7cd-9ze4XIJdeNSNAQ2zFwly_4D0gUbsQIFpXznAA61KkHqPYLxxTEoRsxrXP_zuRusMuFgDftQrgogz/s640/IMG_0887.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The group made the square blocks. I cut the blue strips in the kits 1 inch bigger than was needed so I could square all the blocks to the same size. Then we added the white with red stars corners so the blocks would be sitting on point. I really like the zig zag look the white fabric makes.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAaFe_euN7R0375gMLngR_sPR0NJxqqLch_30yGEeVZ59RTiPa0n2n1FeyLmN40TxbWW1LlUsK4dFdILySOpDMsBrSgadkmUMnkfV7Ee6noid8_NzUfdszikznPJPotRvpEaUlIGFWidsy/s1600/IMG_0888.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAaFe_euN7R0375gMLngR_sPR0NJxqqLch_30yGEeVZ59RTiPa0n2n1FeyLmN40TxbWW1LlUsK4dFdILySOpDMsBrSgadkmUMnkfV7Ee6noid8_NzUfdszikznPJPotRvpEaUlIGFWidsy/s640/IMG_0888.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The group also made these blocks, one of the first blocks made after making the string blocks. They still didn't have the 1/4 inch seam mastered. I did bring them home, unstitched most of them and resewed them into this fun quilt.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Pretty good for mostly beginner quilters.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I am thrilled, not sure how many more need to be quilted and bound.</span><div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A friend made the 16 patches, the pinwheels were sew and flip corners from another quilt. The pinwheels weren't the same size as the 16 patches so I framed them in red which makes them pop. It is fun to see the leftover bits from other quilts become their own quilt.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This quilt was made by the group. They made the string blocks and the 1/2 square triangles. The group hasn't seen this quilt and I think they are going to be amazed to see that their blocks made such a beautiful quilt. We have another one like this with red strings and blue 1/2 sq triangles waiting for binding.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Can't remember where this pattern is from. I think it might look better with a bunch of different fabrics. The white fabric has little stars on it.</span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">All the 1/2 square triangles in this quilt were sew and flip corners from two other quilts that we made. It is such a fun quilt. One member of the group ironed all the seams open and she just couldn't imagine what I was going to do with all those little squares. She will be pleasantly surprised.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">All in all I think the group is doing a remarkable job of helping with these quilts. </span></div>

These were both pieced back in January and I finally found time to get them quilted and bound this week.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When I made our new nephew a quilt I made this similar one at the same time. He loved his quilt so I am positive that a little guy will also like it.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I love making tumbler blocks as they don't require any concentration. This is a second quilt with these same fabrics. I cut out way too many tumbler blocks and still have enough for another one.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So far this year I only used 117.8 yards of fabric. </span><br />

I am thrilled. For now my part of this is complete. I will be washing and drying the quilts once they are finished.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I pieced the first two quilts and I do have to confess that I was getting tired of making patriotic quilts and when I saw this pattern I just had to make something that went together really fast. To my surprise the ladies in the group really liked it (if they hadn't they would have told me so, believe me) and want to have a class to make one!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-size: large;">I made two tumble quilts this year, I cut out way too many blocks and just decided to make a duplicate. I still have more blocks that we will use next year for the Vietnam Vets.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: large;">Thanks Alycia for making this such an easy quilt to make. For me it was less than 2 hours per clue to make this QOV, which is perfect. As always, for me, choosing the fabrics was the hardest part.</span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGzbo_Y_m4G7Am9KH5VqkrgfSiVrjJtBjGPqmth1WOFX7iFpNIPCFAqhzfxmcf8BEjyRFqt45F7VT5kiTAjl3400mvGyRybvLeu3BKF6PuUmaozc9fOkLlnukIE_GiUA2p_l6vDQO181PG/s1600/IMG_0847.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGzbo_Y_m4G7Am9KH5VqkrgfSiVrjJtBjGPqmth1WOFX7iFpNIPCFAqhzfxmcf8BEjyRFqt45F7VT5kiTAjl3400mvGyRybvLeu3BKF6PuUmaozc9fOkLlnukIE_GiUA2p_l6vDQO181PG/s640/IMG_0847.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Clue #3 is complete. Still pretty simple just as Alycia promised.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Though I do have to admit I have not had much practice using the Easy Angle ruler and that has been a bit of a challenge. Can't complain as I haven't lost any of the inside points as yet.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">On to Clue #4. <a href="http://alyciaquilts.blogspot.com/2017/08/mystery-a6-clue-4.html">Linking up with Alycia's blog....</a></span>DeeDeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09216343240460865187noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5937577439937516191.post-20033365219059954852017-07-27T16:03:00.001-05:002017-07-27T16:03:35.841-05:00Alycia's QOV Mystery - Clue #2<span style="font-size: large;">Thank you Alycia for keeping the clues so easy and simple to make.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Here is Clue #2 complete</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Wrz-5OoNRwEPTlWjZvepo84aDW-OH6S8hiXMT2VZNV5cWnEVWscXgToSZfafsQZ1DipiF27UDAaC_46BozCLmdhozLFYV8zMLNl2DPEKARTAv-eO8aXWlOv1tdg5YQOH0iHtwEKYi3qF/s1600/IMG_0845.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Wrz-5OoNRwEPTlWjZvepo84aDW-OH6S8hiXMT2VZNV5cWnEVWscXgToSZfafsQZ1DipiF27UDAaC_46BozCLmdhozLFYV8zMLNl2DPEKARTAv-eO8aXWlOv1tdg5YQOH0iHtwEKYi3qF/s640/IMG_0845.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Captain Robert Rains. We met when I went to volunteer at the Historian's Office. He is the county's Historian. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifpy78YeJfSGKDzA8uExNGeSuZU0FgTdLwD_riuW4zAdrAP0WacMpNRiO_TndYktqgpKqJHjYU7XmfvfKE6Eeu5SQE-_IgENj8X9FEK0nvxcAPjErJycJdTIAm-Moi0n6AAGJ6kWrsVu23/s1600/DSC_4361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifpy78YeJfSGKDzA8uExNGeSuZU0FgTdLwD_riuW4zAdrAP0WacMpNRiO_TndYktqgpKqJHjYU7XmfvfKE6Eeu5SQE-_IgENj8X9FEK0nvxcAPjErJycJdTIAm-Moi0n6AAGJ6kWrsVu23/s640/DSC_4361.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Bob is on the left - his son is in the red shirt.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Bob has recently been diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer. He is off to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville to see what his options are. He is 87 and served in the Korean War. Update - the doctors said he is in great shop and if he agrees to the treatments they will operate. Haven't heard if he is going to take the chemo treatments.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The presentation was a surprise with lots of friends and family in attendance.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj7S9vg61Yfs7kj5NVIuYWiTmxXMas-JtIr1mkikhp61Qj_2b6J4_oEOhKlSE3FkLrOkt5g7tDbS7EebdQloy2F04RJsb2pBTNn5W9do-xFuaIo1SY6PRYxzxbRUID7CMOpkwQKOVodOkX/s1600/DSC_4382.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj7S9vg61Yfs7kj5NVIuYWiTmxXMas-JtIr1mkikhp61Qj_2b6J4_oEOhKlSE3FkLrOkt5g7tDbS7EebdQloy2F04RJsb2pBTNn5W9do-xFuaIo1SY6PRYxzxbRUID7CMOpkwQKOVodOkX/s640/DSC_4382.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Bob did tell me that he didn't want or expect a Vet quilt since I had given him a quilt the year before when he was in the hospital with pneumonia. I felt that I couldn't be the one to instigate the presentation so I turned it over to my friend Anne.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Bob has lived his whole life in Wayne County, except during the war and when he went to Memphis to the university.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">He was a teacher, coach, principal. Most people call him Mr. Rains or Coach Rains as that is what they grew up calling him. I am so blessed to know him as Bob, my friend.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This quilt was a group project. I cut out the kit, my friend Lavonne pieced it, I quilted it and Anne put on the binding. I think this is my favorite quilt we have made so far and I was saving it to present to Bob at the Veteran's Day celebration.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEs2NksTTNU2-07SFG_BPeiFjztC0Lv8dyrNS7eWkOu9RNlGC26zIAURK_GvMKBwMQRDRVqXkjvNc9w8WXUdFmn_isyPQcQEb35zHRo-aPizLP0sW_HxYH5biUpulKFLOnstwIDy64su4t/s1600/DSC_4378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEs2NksTTNU2-07SFG_BPeiFjztC0Lv8dyrNS7eWkOu9RNlGC26zIAURK_GvMKBwMQRDRVqXkjvNc9w8WXUdFmn_isyPQcQEb35zHRo-aPizLP0sW_HxYH5biUpulKFLOnstwIDy64su4t/s640/DSC_4378.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;"> We only have about 5 tops left to make so the end is in sight. </span><br />
<br />

I think we could have 11 quilts waiting to be quilted and bound. We are doing really well.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSgfCsdRSAbco4eHLKVTaiPnvdAINizic3b7n5_Gh05DQL4UYe8dzTA5E5jBUsjQbtwofUwaswZJDXovFt8DZNMaBf3KRpdLB2GnY1DVwOQZl68ZT0Jq4G0K6DWqX2FDokNBWQv5oSECZW/s1600/IMG_0836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSgfCsdRSAbco4eHLKVTaiPnvdAINizic3b7n5_Gh05DQL4UYe8dzTA5E5jBUsjQbtwofUwaswZJDXovFt8DZNMaBf3KRpdLB2GnY1DVwOQZl68ZT0Jq4G0K6DWqX2FDokNBWQv5oSECZW/s640/IMG_0836.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This quilt pattern is called Tortilla Strips by Atkinson Designs. I can't remember where I first saw this pattern and I realized it would be perfect for the bits of leftover strips from other quilts. Only hope there will be a Korean Vet who loves the modern look of this one</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF8pl2sDTFXkH14MR8hPPVNmG6UUfMllR4lblnaRJF8JUvZ9MeJw9ABYlrD6WQjnQ16TkoC0OvmnaMX7EkXb_kE6rvfgyQ2fEtOoFfi9t62u-E2VhPjE3xfCwB7vgd-WGRP6R-9vi3YlZT/s1600/IMG_0837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF8pl2sDTFXkH14MR8hPPVNmG6UUfMllR4lblnaRJF8JUvZ9MeJw9ABYlrD6WQjnQ16TkoC0OvmnaMX7EkXb_kE6rvfgyQ2fEtOoFfi9t62u-E2VhPjE3xfCwB7vgd-WGRP6R-9vi3YlZT/s640/IMG_0837.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I really like that the star points are only around the center part of the blocks. Something a bit different. These quilts were a group effort - I pieced them, Anne quilted them and Rubye did the bindings.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If the quilts look wonky it is because I have blocks pinned underneath to the wall so they are making the quilt poof out a bit.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">We had a group sew day and 6 ladies showed up to help piece a quilt top.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">They sewed for three hours and made 56 blocks</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIETL5Nz7V_vw3QHMrNucDFHPWQjtgKJljPOyqT-NrS-JTR0Qu2rVo3zt8CewQcCZlQHb3vpt2LOwvhZDec9rwU7SS3OyTkh60M9EZBxaHp1U9u4ZFBmQwVACFDkpEab6_k46jczmBJS0t/s1600/IMG_0839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIETL5Nz7V_vw3QHMrNucDFHPWQjtgKJljPOyqT-NrS-JTR0Qu2rVo3zt8CewQcCZlQHb3vpt2LOwvhZDec9rwU7SS3OyTkh60M9EZBxaHp1U9u4ZFBmQwVACFDkpEab6_k46jczmBJS0t/s640/IMG_0839.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">When I cut out the pieces I made the last round one inch bigger than needed so I could square up the blocks all to the same size. I did get it made into a top and it is in the pile waiting to be quilted.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
