Stash Report October 28, 2012

The pattern for this quilt was found here - http://quiltinggallery.com/2012/06/23/my-next-scrappy-project/ and I just knew I would make it someday.

The pattern called for 1.5 inch squares and strips, since I had an abundance of 2.5 inch squares and strips my quilt turned out huge, it finished at 113 inches square before washing.  I used white with black dots for the cornerstones and a black with white dots for the binding. Another quilt that was easy to piece. All types and colors of scraps went into this quilt.

The quilt isn't as crooked as it looks, my hanging job was off.  I used 23.96 yards, including the back and binding. This quilt is off to live with a very good friend.

This next quilt is going to Ronald's house. It is 47 inches square. I had a bunch of leftover 2 x 3.5 blue strips and paired it with some orange pieces. Luckily I had the perfect fabric for the border. This is a bright and cheery quilt.

Tessellating Cross/Halloween/Stash Report 10/21/12

I have ordered a quilt rack from Deanna's dad. You can find the information here....http://weddingdressblue.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/more-quilt-rack-information/
if you think you might like to order one. This is one of the nicest racks I have seen. As I walked through my house I saw many possibilities of where I could put it and just might have to order a couple more.
Swinging-Arm Quilt Rack

My 15 year old niece was here and she decided to make a Halloween quilt for her bed. Nothing I could say or do, including pinning, helped her sew a 1/4 inch seam. After she sewed her blocks into rows, I squared them up and after she got her rows sewed together, I squared the sides. I added the containment border and the spider border, her grandmother quilted it and I added the binding. A lot of the sashing was lost when I squared up the blocks. She was so relieved when I told her she could just make a lap quilt instead of a queen size one. She told me she will NEVER EVER become a quilter, just too hard. She is very close to having a black belt in karate and she is trying out for the youth symphony in Denver, two things I would NEVER EVER want to do.

I decided to join a quilt-a-long. http://annalenaland.com/2012/09/20/tessellating-cross-tutorial/
The goal is to make one block a day for 90 days. Since I had all the stuff out I decided to make a bunch all at once. Super easy and went together quickly.

This quilt is going to a Sarah's Church's Ministry, http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/

I just love this time of year, when I can add another quilt or two to the bed. I love the weight of two or three quilts, it is so cozy and warm. I even think I sleep better. We only have one blanket and it is an electric one on my mother's bed, with two quilts on top of it.

I think in 2013 I will keep track of how much fabric comes in and goes out. I will continue making quilts for Ronald's House as I am so grateful that my grandgirls are healthy. I will continue making quilts of valor for the men and women who protect our country and keep my family safe.

October 7th Stash Report

This QOV will be sent to Alycia. I used 11.44 yards on this quilt.  I used the pattern found at Kim's Big Quilting Adventure with a few changes. I used a flag fabric for the center of the stars and I didn't add the last two borders. I really like the stars in the sashing.  It finished at 74 x 80 before washing.

Here are some of the blocks that I made for Margaret's Hope Chest. These are for the 4th and last project for the year. For pattern to make these blocks go to their website -
http://margaretshopechest.blogspot.com/2012/09/project-hope-2012-final-project-fun-in.html

They were fast and easy to make.  You can make 3 blocks from two strips of fabric. The blocks ar 9.5 inches. The centers are 4 inches and the strips are cut at 3 1/4 inches. A good place to donate to. Used 1.5 yards.  Don't mind my messy cutting table - I am not really good at cleaning up between quilts.

Still thinking on what I want my goals to be in 2013. I know I will still make Quilts of Valor and quilts for Ronald's House.  Maybe there won't be any set goals, just make the quilts that  appeal to me, starting new ones or finishing up ones that have been started.

I also know that I DO NOT need to purchase any fabric ever again. The last couple of times I went into a quilt shop I couldn't find anything to buy (Kinda like going to the grocery store when you just had dinner) nothing even tempted me. Had a bunch of coupons for Joann's, pulled into the parking lot and didn't even stop.

I do want to take a paper piecing class. And in January I will place a ad in the paper to see if there are any quilters in my area who would like to get together.

Not sure if "Stash Reports" are something I want to continue. Does anyone else feel uncomfortable making them? Maybe uncomfortable isn't the right word.
