Quilts for Vets of Wayne County - Part 12

The quilt show was a huge success! All our efforts really paid off.
Just some random pictures... Alligator bites anyone???

lots and lots of people showed up -
Beautiful Music performed by a bagpiper, we also had a gospel singer and a country band. Very fun and festive.
Once all the 50 quilts were hung it certainly didn't seem like that many. The Korean Vets that came were able to pick the quilt they  wanted to receive in November.
we were able to get all the quilts hung on ropes between the trees
it was such a beautiful sight to see so many patriotic quilts
The quilt in the background was our raffle quilt. We made a whopping $650!!! Enough $ to make all the quilts we will need for the next 3 years.
There were about 20 vendors selling everything from yummy treats to beautiful wood signs.
It was a lot of work and I am so grateful it was a success and I am indeed grateful it is over!!!

Quilts for Vets of Wayne County, TN part 11

Here are the last four quilts for the quilt show on Saturday. "Today" the forecast is for rain on Saturday. Hopefully that changes.

This one was made by the newest member of our quilt group - she is a quilter!!!! She did a great job.
Four different people made this quilt happen. Karen made the 16 patches, a friend made them into a  quilt top, Anne quilted it and I did the binding. Totally a group effort.

The pattern from this quilt is from Alycia's latest QOV Mystery. The directions made this one super easy to make. We are donating this quilt to the group who is building a Veteran's Park in our county. I hope it brings in a bunch of donations.

I think the name of this pattern is "Home of the Brave". Another quilt that went together with no problems. You piece it in vertical rows.
Yes, this is it for the Vet quilts for this year. Now we are praying that it doesn't rain on Saturday until 2:30 when the quilt show ends.

Here is a copy of the flyer that Anne, quilt shop owner, sent out on Facebook, members of the guilds she belongs to and all guilds within 100 miles of Wayne County.

Quilt for Vets Quilt Show and Country Fair

On September 23rd at 10:00 am to 2 pm, the FABRIK Emporium located at
2014 Old Beech Creek Rd. in Waynesboro will host a Quilt for Vet's
Quilt Show and Country Fair.  Approximately 50 quilts will be
displayed.  These quilts are for the Veteran's of the Korean War and
will be distributed on Veteran's Day (Nov. 11th).  Last year, many
people mentioned that they could not see the gorgeous quilts as the
vets were wrapped in them so the idea of a quilt show was born. In
addition to the quilts, there we will have opening festivities, where
Steve Allbright, senior advisor to Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn,
Representative David Byrd and County Executive Jim Manbugat will
deliver short comments honoring our vets.  We will have Dennis
McMaster playing some patriotic music during this presentation.  The
American Legion will be presenting the colors.  Throughout the event,
Picken Crows and local gospel singer Murray Paul Gordon will entertain.  We have a very special food vendor--Dewey's Cajun Shack will be providing their wonderful Cajun Food.  There will also be many other goodies/treats available. Hint: it is
round, fried with apples!!!  We have numerous crafters and community
organizations also in attendance. Additional information and
directions call 931-676-3253 Thurs and Fri 10-4 and Sat 10-3.

Happy 1st Anniversary FABRIK Emporium!!!

Can you beat that price for Benartex, RJR, Hoffman, Michael Miller,
Andover, Marcus, Choice just to name a few.  Moda and a few other brands will be $6.99.  Solids will be $3.99!!! 108 inch wide backing will be $8.99 a yard!!!

Quilts for Vets of Wayne County, TN - Part 10

Here are three more Vet quilts washed dried and ready to hang at the show on Saturday.

This square circle quilt isn't my favorite and I couldn't figure out why until Karen reminded me that I am not that fond of so much background being
 in my quilts.
I absolutely love this one! Super simple and it looks great. Very patriotic looking.
This 18 patch was a great way to use up the last little pieces of fabric. The rectangles are 2.5 x 4.5. Another easy quilt especially if you sew two strips together and then subcut.
I only have four left that need binding and then I am finished!!!!

Quilts for Vets of Wayne County, TN - Part 9

4 more quilts are finished! With just over a week until the quilt show we still have 7 that need binding and then we are done... we certainly are cutting it really close.

This blocks in this quilt were made by the group. I think they did a really great job.

When the quilts are finished and  I show the group the quilts they helped make they are all in awe that they could make something so beautiful. It is really very touching to see their responses.

This is the second tumbler quilt made this year and we still have enough tumblers cut for at least one more.
The group made the square blocks. I cut the blue strips in the kits 1 inch bigger than was needed so I could square all the blocks to the same size. Then we added the white with red stars corners so the blocks would be sitting on point. I really like the zig zag look the white fabric makes.

The group also made these blocks, one of the first blocks made after making the string blocks. They still didn't have the 1/4 inch seam mastered. I did bring them home, unstitched most of them and resewed them into this fun quilt.

Pretty good for mostly beginner quilters.
