Dec. 28, 2014 ~ End Of Year Tallies

2014 was a very good year for quilts. Used a lot of fabric and made a lot of quilts.

Here are my tallies for the year ~

Out of the 76 quilts I finished this year

52 were baby quilts - I took Michelle's challenge of making one each week

12 were QOV - my favorite place to donate quilts

6 UFOs were finished

6 new quilts were started and finished - not including the QOV or the baby quilts

8 of the quilts were kept - 2 for the dogs, 1 for mother, 3 bed quilts, 1 lap quilt and 1 quilt for the air bed.

2 baby quilts were given as gifts

Most of the baby quilts, 3 UFOs and 2 new quilts, went to RMH - which is my 2nd favorite place to donate quilts. A few went to Project Linus.

86 yards of fabric came in

496 yards of fabric were used

410 total yards of fabric used YTD

Yep, it was a very good year!

Hope everyone has the most wonderful New Year!

Dec 9th - Stash Report

I added 4.5 yards of this adorable fabric to my collection - I had a gift certificate and wanted to use it before it got lost in the move.

It is the perfect background for a QOV I plan on making early next year.

I will be using this pattern and using blues instead of the greens

Here is my first block -  I think it is going to make a great quilt. This block is 24 inches.

Since last report ~ ~
Fabric In - 4.5 yards
Fabric Out - Zero - I won't be finishing any more quilts this year

November 30, 2014 Stash Report

Linking up with Judy's stash report...

I finally finished my City Sampler quilt - 100 modern quilt blocks by Tula Pink.

It is 98 inches square  before washing. 100 6 inch blocks. I have never made anything like this before.

This is the fabric I used for the sashing - the colors are closer to the above picture.

Modern quilts/blocks aren't my favorite. I prefer more traditional patterns. Though I have to admit that I did enjoy making this one.  I think I might have one or two UFOs that are on the modern/improv side that I hope to finish next year.  Bill said that this is his favorite quilt to date. He insisted that we sleep under it the first night it was finished, even before washing it.

Not sure what I am going to make with the 21 extra blocks. I thought I would need them to make the quilt  bed size - I just made the sashing a bit wider instead. No two blocks are the same.

I have decided that any fabric that comes in between the last report of 2014 and the first report of 2015 will not be added to my numbers. It will be a great time to "re-stash" my fabric!

Stash Repport November 23, 2014

Baby quilts 51 and 52 are finished!!! I am so glad this journey is over.

You can read about #51 here

Baby quilt #52 came about because the two charm packs I was given last week came with a pattern. If a quilt was made from the pattern, and the finished quilt or a picture of the quilt is brought back to the shop you would get a $10 gift card and be entered to win a $200 gift card. I sent a picture to the friend who gifted me the charm packs. Maybe she will win.

My hexie flowers for the week.

If I continue making 7 each week I will be finished with them the first week in May.

I finally have the opportunity to drive into Nashville this afternoon to deliver my stack of 36 quilts for RMH.
So glad they are going today as someone keeps telling me they are going to be used for packing blankets! I don't think so.

51st Baby Quilt

I used the pattern Moondance by Villa Rose Designs

Isn't this swirly fabric great?
Didn't have enough of it so I had to make the quilt a bit smaller.

Only one more baby quilt to go! I am glad this journey is almost over.

Stash Report November 16, 2014 -

Baby Quilts 48, 49 and 50!!!

I think I will meet my goal of 52 baby quilts this year as I only have 2 more to create. I will not be doing this challenge again. I want to focus on some quilts that have been patiently waiting to be finished.

This quilt is from the  "Star Bright" pattern which is free on Craftsy

This next quilt came about when I was looking through one of Kim Diehl's books, saw a block and wondered what it would look like if I made it into one giant block for a baby quilt.  I thought it came out pretty good.

The background fabric is tiny red, blue, yellow and green dots.

For this last quilt I used Oh Fransson's pattern -- Charm Squares

2015 Goals - Stash Report 11-9-14

I think a lot of quilters like to plan out what they hope to accomplish in the coming year.

These are my quilting goals for 2015 ~ yes, my list keeps changing ~ for now I am content with these...

1 - 12 large lap quilts for Ronald McDonald House
a - use fabric and patterns I already have
b - make these for teens

2 - 12 QOV
a - use fabric and patterns I already have
b - okay to use a pattern I have already made
c - locate a place to deliver them close to the new house

3 - finish one UFO each month ~ I'm gonna try this again next year
a - make a list of quilts that need to be finished
b - if not in love with the quilt make it smaller and donate it
c - use only fabric I already have to finish these

4 - make a valentine bed quilt
a - use fabric I already have - reds, pinks and greens
      b - use a pattern I already have

5 - make a Christmas bed quilt
a - try to incorporate fabric I already have - might have to purchase some
     b- use a pattern I already have

Simple enough - should be doable -

Check out baby quilts #s 46 and 47 here - only 5 more to make, I think I will be able to reach my goal!

7 more hexie flowers. It is taking me about 70 minutes to make each flower, that doesn't include make the hexies (seems a little long to me, maybe 20 stitches per side is a bit much). I probably should watch a couple more you tubes on how to make these and maybe learn a new tip or two. Still need to make 184.

Baby Quilts #s 46 & 47

For this week's baby quilts I used the pattern from Sassafras Lane Designs called Lullaby Lane.

I didn't follow the pattern as I left off the row that has the applique name.

This one didn't get the flying geese on the top and bottom borders as I ran out of orange.  I think it is still cute. This picture sure makes the orange look neon - which it isn't. These two will join the other quilts going to RMH.

Here is a close up of the center fabric - so adorable. Love those jellyfish! The center panel measures 17x20 - you can get 4 panels out of a yard of fabric - I will use the other 2 panels sometime next year.

I am hoping to get them quilted and bound this weekend.

Made a QOV Presentation Case

I also managed to make 46 blocks for Alycia. She is a having a QOV Block Drive. Simple block and goes together quickly.

Pictures of the new house can be seen here -
I have heard that the solar panels are up!

Here are a few more hexie flowers
I am thinking of putting them on this black dot fabric, I keep changing my mind. I have 34 made and only 191 to go. I am still enjoying making these little flowers.

Maybe I will be able to get in more sewing/quilting time this week.

Yardage Chart ~ House Progress

I found this fun yardage chart at http://everydaycelebrate.blogspot.com/2010/06/little-something-for-you.html

LeAnne has made these in various colors and explains how to print them. Great to have one at your cutting area and another in your wallet.

Here are some pictures of the house ~

This is the entrance into our community. Even though we are the only ones building at this time they still decorated the entrance.  There will only be, at the most, 15 homes, each on 18 + acres.
This starts the 3 mile drive to our place
Still driving to our place...

Turning off to our place. Can't see the house yet -
You can barely see the house - though you have a good picture of the dash mat for my car!

The sheet rock is almost all up and they have started doing the tapping and sanding. This is the living room.

This is a close up of the brick.
They are painting the hardy plank the same color as the roof. The soffits are all up. We are going to put a non-skid tile on the front porch.
Sewing room!!! They finished hanging the sheet rock yesterday. I will be putting laminate flooring in here, easy to clean.

The solar guy starts next week, the septic tank goes in on Tuesday. The walkway and retaining wall in the front of the house will be constructed next week.

We ordered the flooring yesterday, The cabinet maker we met with does beautiful work, but I wasn't crazy about his door fronts, don't want a raised panel on the doors. I need to find a door I like and see if he can make it.

We ordered the moving trucks (three 26 foot trucks - We have a lot of big bulky items that can't be stacked) for Thanksgiving weekend. Not sure if the cabinets will be finished by then. If we need to we will keep the minimum of items and live here until the cabinets are in.

So fun to see the house with the sheet rock up, starting to look like a real home.

Quilts on our beds

Linking up with Jo's "what quilt is on your bed?".

This "all about me" quilt is on our bed. I LOVE this quilt. It was so much fun collecting the different fabrics.  I made three of these (all 100 inches square) - 2 went to my best Halloween friends.

This quilt is on a guest bed. Wish I still had more of the black and orange dot fabric.

This fuchsia quilt is on a guest bed.

These last two quilts are on mother's bed, along with the electric blanket. Both are about 14-15 years old.

Looks like next year I will need a make a couple more Halloween quilts so every bed will have one.

Oct 12, 2014 ~ Stash Report~QOV~Baby Quilts

Yippee - the last of my 17 strippie quilts, by Mollie, is finally finished! Here is baby quilt #44.

I saw a quilt at the Paducah quilt show 3 years ago and decided to make my version into a QOV. I made my blocks to finish at 12 inches. My flying geese are 6x3 finished, side strips are 3x12 finished - just a tad bit blurry!

My hexie flowers are coming along, though at this rate it will take quite awhile to make 225 of these.
I am using my 2.5 inch scraps to make these.  I am considering using white with black dots for the background fabric.
Finished baby quilt #43 - read more about it here...

For baby quilt #45 I used the pattern "Two's Company by Karie Patch Design.  I was given the Raggedy Andy fabric 2-3 years ago. I used the rest of the  fabric on the back.

Baby Quilt #43

I found the pattern for this baby quilt on Shannon's blog.  Go check out her blog as she makes a lot of great quilts.

Baby Quilt #43!

It was a super easy one to make. I used 3 navy, 3 aqua and one orange fabric for this quilt. I bound it in navy.

This quilt has been added to the RMH pile.

Stash Report October 5, 2014

I am going to try counting my fabric a bit differently. I am just going to report what comes in (hopefully nothing for the rest of the year) and what goes out (hopefully a lot) from one post to the next. I have been really good and have only bought 80 yards of fabric this year. I am keeping track of the year to date numbers in a notebook for my own information.

I had a stack of squares and Karen suggested I make a D4P. This is my very first D4P and I did pretty good matching the seams.

This is a QOV - it has red, white, blue and gold in it - perfect for a woman.

And the presentation case, the cuff is the same fabric that I used in the quilt.

Karen has a Star Bright quilt as her header and I got the free pattern here.  I made mine out of a charm pack, and used a piece of fabric for the star.

I should have made it one row wider and longer. I also should have used one fabric for framing the star. This one is going to Ronald McDonald's House. It is baby quilt # 40.

Another QOV is finished. This time I used Mollie's Framed 9 Patch pattern. If you haven't been to her website check it out, she has 60+ patterns (all free) they  look great and are easy to make. I started this one 3 months ago.

The binding is a red on red stripe.
I used the remainder of the backing fabric for the presentation case.

2 more Strippie quilts are finished.   I started making these quilts in July using Mollie's pattern and have one more to finish. These are baby quilts 41 and 42. These are also going to RMH.

Fabric in - ZERO!
Fabric out - 30.63 yards
