Stash Report #9

I needed to get ahead on making my baby quilts - here are #s 9,10,11 and 12...read about them here....

I decided to finish a UFO and picked out these 63 7 inch blocks - only used 60.
The center of the blocks are left over bits from a backing. Using the lime and blue colors from the fabric I framed the squares. They sat for years in a drawer, can't even remember how long they have been waiting or which quilt this fabric was the backing for.

Couldn't find a pattern that used 7 inch blocks so  I decided to use 1/2 square triangles and came up with this quilt. The more I look at it the more I like it. I am keeping this one, it is the perfect size for our air bed.  I used a dark blue tone on tone for the binding.

The blue has white dots. I calculated wrong and I was 1/2 yard short of the light fabric for the triangles and found three yards of it on ebay and only $5 a yard.

Tula Pink's blocks for this week  - - - - so glad I was able to purchase a bunch of scraps to make these blocks with. A lot of the fabrics that I received aren't one I would have normally purchased. Combining the scraps with some of my fabrics is going to make a very interesting quilt.

I have decided not to participate in Judy's block challenge and in Angela's rainbow scrap challenge, they just aren't working for me at this time. Maybe I am not a joiner. I like to do things at my own pace and in my own time frame.

There are some really fun quilt alongs in blogland that I think would be fun quilts to make. I just bookmark them and maybe someday they will get made.

There was a quilt along using Tula Pink's book, I followed it and towards the end I decided I wanted to make the quilt and that I wanted to use her fabric in the quit. Her fabric is way out of my comfort zone so I knew I would have to purchase some. Then I began to wonder if any of the quilters from the quilt along would be willing to sell their scraps. I emailed about 8 or 9 people and got two responses. One had me purchase it through her etsy shop and the other I just mailed a check to. I ended up with 9-10 yards of scraps, some were Tula Pink fabrics and some were not. It is fun to see a raccoon face peaking out of a block, and I fussy cut other pieces for some of the blocks. Some were almost a fat quarter with just a square cut out, other pieces were 2 in squares, good variety to pick from. I am also adding in some of my solids a few prints to complete the blocks.

Love what you did with the orphan blocks!! Looks like this is what you planned all along. Your fabric usage numbers are terrific, your sewing machine must rarely stop. One question, what in the world do you do with so many baby quilts? Are they for charity, do you sell them or what?

They are all going to be donation quilts, just not sure where.
