August 31st - Purchases - Stash Report -

When I first started seeing the Moda Modern Building Blocks quilt  popping up on different blogs - it was love at first sight.  I was intrigued with all the different sized blocks that made up the quilt. I have never made anything like this before.  My kit came this week (15.25 yards).  This will be my third sampler quilt.

I have a hard time with colors, so I bought the kit thinking I would be able to add other fabrics to it. I have been collecting dot fabrics and decided to copy Thelma's idea of adding dots to my quilt.

I  don't need/want a quilt that is 84x96. I will be making it bigger and ordered 3 (probably too much) more yards of the eggshell that is used for the background.   I am going to try to make it about 102 inches square.  I won't start on this quilt until next year.

Not much going on at the new house, the railing went up on the back deck.  The foam insulation should go in in two weeks. Once that is finished then the sheetrock will go up and the final electrical inspection. After that things should move fast.

Every single time I read blogs I see another quilt I want to make! My list isn't getting shorter. Plus I have all the quilts that are in various stages of completion.  I have been thinking about taking some of the quilts and making them smaller for QOV or RMH instead of quilts for our beds.

2015 is almost here and I have been debating, with myself, on what I would like to accomplish.  The Lion's Club in our new area does a lot of work with the Veterans and maybe they will be able to use my QsOV.

It is called Star Cluster by Judy Martin.

Mine finished at 40 x 40. Perfect size for a baby quilt. The pinwheel in the center is fun.

I hope to get it quilted this weekend. It really went together rather quickly, I need to write the sizes down so I can make it again.

This is baby quilt #30 - only 22 more to make to reach my goal of making one quilt a week and there are only 18 weeks left!

August 24, 2014 - Famous Quilters - Stash Report

Famous people, both here and gone, whose hobby is or was quilting: 

Elizabeth Taylor: On movie sets, she would have her dressing room trailer and then a seperate trailer to work on quilts during filming breaks.

Paul Newman: An avid quilter, he joined many quilting bees and entered many of his quilts in state fairs, several winning Grand Prize.

John Lennon: His grandmother taught him to quilt when he was a young boy.

He would make quilts while he was on the road with the Beatles, and he would make his fellow band members quilts for Christmas presents.

Lucille Ball: She always had quilt stands set up in her trailer on the set of "I Love Lucy" and would work on the quilts between rehearsals. Two of her quilts appeared on the show as hers and Ricky's bedspreads.

Marie Osmond: Marie not only is an avid quilter, but has served as Chairwoman of the National Quilting Society. Several of her quilts have won "grand champion" at worldwide quilting shows.

Eva Longoria: Makes pot holders out of quilt squares that she has sewn.

Queen Elizabeth: She and her mother were talented quilters. Some of her quilts hang in both Buckingham Palace and Winsor Palace.

Calvin Cooledge: During his Presidency, he would msake small quilts for visiting dignitaries.

Sally Field: Has quilted for over 40 years. Member of several quilting societies.

Johnny Depp: Has quilted since he was a teen. He is another actor who has been known to quilt on the set of his movies.

Jack Lemmon: Made quilts for Jack Klugman and  Tony Randall as a congratulations for being cast in the tv version of The Odd Couple.

Angela Lansbury: Made beautiful quilts on the set of Murder She Wrote.

George Strait: This country music legend has won several awards for his beautiful quilts. Two of his quilts are displayed in the Grand Ole Opry.

Thought that was a fun list of quilters to share with you....

I ordered 10 yards of Kona silver from fabrics.com and they sent it on  a tube instead of a flat bolt - I thought that was pretty neat -

I will be using this for the background of my flowering snowball quilt.

August 9, 2014 - Baby Quilts and Stash Report

I was able to finish 7 more baby quilts this week (only 3 more to go)  using Mollie's Quick Strippie pattern.  If you haven't visited her free pattern page you are missing out on some really fun, easy and great looking quilts.  All these strippie quilts are going to Ronald's House. 

Finally used the last of the poofy batting.

Finally finished all the blocks for my Modern Quilt by Tula Pink. 

This is going to be one interesting quilt when it finished.

I bought 12 yards of fabric for the frames and sashing of the above quilt - 

Colors are so hard to get to come out just right with my camera/computer. The bottom piece is a deep dark blue/green. Not gray!
